Karachi, the bustling metropolis of Pakistan, is set to observe a public holiday on April 23, 2024, as the city prepares for the high-profile visit of the Iranian President, Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim. In an official statement released by the Karachi Commissioner, the public holiday has been declared to minimize disruption for the city’s residents and facilitate the logistical and security arrangements necessary for this significant diplomatic event.
Strategic move by the city’s administration
The three-day visit of President Seyyed Ebrahim to Pakistan, spanning from April 22 to April 24, 2024, highlights the importance of the bilateral relationship between the two neighboring countries. The public holiday is a strategic move by the city’s administration to ensure traffic flow is managed, and security protocols are meticulously followed without causing undue inconvenience to the public.
Traffic Route guide
Geo News reports that as part of the security measures being implemented, certain roads in Karachi will be closed to traffic. Notably, Club Road from PIDC to Metropole will be completely shut down for vehicular movement. Furthermore, Dr. Ziauddin Road from the Ziauddin Bridge signal to PIDC Chowk and Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road from Khoja Chowk to PIDC will also be closed.
Alternative routes
To assist the public in navigating around the city, alternative routes have been suggested. Traffic coming from Sultanabad can take the Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road from PIDC, towards Khoja Chowk and onward to Aiwan-e-Sadar Road. Those who travel from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Sultanabad can take a left turn at Club Chowk, moving towards Clifton Bridge and Boat Basin to reach their destinations.
Additionally, traffic from Khalique-uz-Zaman Road, Gizri, and Bacha Party can take a right turn from Ziauddin signal and a left turn at Hoshang Chowk to head towards Metropole, Fountain Chowk, Aiwan-e-Sadar, and beyond. Vehicles coming from Shaheen Complex can take a left turn at Khoja Chowk towards Aiwan-e-Sadar Road, Avari Tower Clifton, and other areas.
Traffic Police Karachi urges
The Traffic Police Karachi urges commuters to choose alternate routes to avoid inconvenience and reach out to the Traffic Helpline at 1915 for assistance, where representatives are available to provide support at all times.
As Karachi welcomes President Seyyed Ebrahim, the public holiday not only reflects the city’s commitment to ensuring a secure and orderly environment for the visit but also underscores the strengthening ties between Pakistan and Iran. This diplomatic engagement is anticipated to pave the way for enhanced cooperation and mutual prosperity between the two nations.
