The much-anticipated album, Chain of Light, by the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, is all set to release on September 20 this year, marking a historic moment for fans of the Shahenshah-e-Qawwali. Unearthed from the archival tapes of Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records, this album is a long-lost treasure, recorded 34 years ago in April 1990, during the making of Nusrat’s iconic album, Mustt Mustt, in collaboration with Canadian producer Michael Brook.
The album features four traditional qawwals, including one never heard before. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s unmatched vocal brilliance shines through this album, capturing the maestro at the peak of his powers. Peter Gabriel, in an official statement, praised the legendary singer, stating, “What Nusrat could do with his voice and the emotions he could evoke was extraordinary. We are proud to have played a role in bringing him to a global audience.” He added that the discovery of this album has been a delight for Real World Records.
Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, whose timeless contributions to music continue to resonate, passed away suddenly in August 1997, leaving behind an irreplaceable legacy. This album, Chain of Light, offers a rare chance to experience his magic once again.
Be sure to mark your calendars for September 20, as Chain of Light promises to be a musical revelation, showcasing Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s mastery of Qawwali like never before.
